After installing Steam, you must create a Steam account to run your dedicated server. This is separate from the Steam account you normally use to play games. If you attempt to run a dedicated server from your normal Steam account, you will not be able to join your server using the same account. Jun 21, 2010 · Whenever I try to open the program i get a message that says " Steam.exe (main exception): To run Steam, you must first connect to the Internet. I have Windows 7 and my wireless connection is working fine with any other program. I was able to install steam but when I go to run it I get this message: "Steam.exe (main exception): To run Steam, you must first connect to the internet". I can't get the interface to show up nor can I download TF2 on my home gaming PC even though I am connected to the internet as this is the computer I am typing this message from that I game on.

If it is in offline mode and you exit the program you can start back later directly into offline mode. But be sure if you plan to be without internet, put steam into offline mode. Also you'll have to activate steam games online first before playing them, but surely you'll be able to since you had to have internet to download them in the first
